1960’s – present – 600+ condemnation cases, and 70+ trials in Washington, Alaska, Oregon and Idaho Richard Pierson was a deputy prosecuting attorney for King County between the years 1963 and 1965. Since that time, he has focused his practice on the representation of property owners in real estate condemnation disputes. He works to obtain just compensation for condemned parcels of all types and descriptions, including commercial, residential, waterfront, industrial, and unimproved land. He is heavily involved in condemnation work in Western Washington, and has also handled matters in Eastern Washington, Alaska, Oregon, and Idaho. Richard has successfully opposed a wide range of government agencies, including the Cities of Seattle, Bellingham, SeaTac, Issaquah, Edmonds, and Everett, the Counties of King, Pierce, and Snohomish, the Ports of Seattle, Tacoma, Friday Harbor, and Bellingham, the Washington State Department of Transportation, the Washington State Department of Corrections, Puget Sound Energy, the Bonneville Power Administration, King County Parks and Recreation Department, and various smaller municipalities and school districts. In addition to representing private property owners, Richard has also done selective work on behalf of condemning government agencies. Richard frequently serves as an arbitrator and mediator in several local jurisdictions. He has appeared as a panel member and seminar participant in many continuing legal education seminars, as well as seminars for appraisers. For approximately fifteen years, he also served as Special District Counsel to the Washington State Bar Association on disciplinary matters. |
